The ICON CRIT meme

                        Anonymous icon critique meme

Do you ever wonder if there's something that you could improve with your icons, or have you ever wanted to tell someone that there's one thing that they do phenomenally, but you're afraid to leave a comment logged in? Do you just want a no-risk place to get icon concrit from, without the stress of a lims or applying to a community?

Comment with your username, and the journal you post your icons at. Post 3-10 icon samples, so those who aren't the most familiar with your icons can give you some opinions too.

Pimp to your journal.

Reply to people's samples anonymously (or if you absolutely have to be contrary, logged in).  Anonymous comments have been enabled and IP logging has been turned off.

Try to be polite. Wank is not the name of the game here, so try to leave the sort of comments you'd like to receive.

Profit?

Edit: Because comments are happening so infrequently now, and the meme is kind of dead, IP logging has been turned back on. Anonymous comments are still allowed, however. I apologize for any inconvenience.

you know, visually your icons are of exceptionally high quality. Every time you make an icon, it's obvious you spend a great deal of time on it (unless it's one of your gag/inside joke icons, but those can be forgiven XD).

But I think, if I had to give crit, I think you don't push yourself with them. A lot of your icons follow the same pattern, use the same style, and it's comfortable and familiar. They look pretty, but they're not exciting.

ilu though ;;

heh, i disagree, somewhat. i'm not big on textures or brushes because i find it too time consuming for one little 100x100 px graphic. but yeah, when it comes to colouring, i do spend like ten-fifteen minutes on each icon, whether it's brushing out some pixelation, discolour... (that second to last icon of Paul? spent twenty+ minutes on it all together because one of his eyes went all red. o________o)

i see what you mean. i do tend to follow the same technique a lot.(although it's hard to help. i use my favourite technique a lot. XD) i'd learn more from Icon_Tutorial if people would post more tutorials that could translate to my version of Photoshop. D:

aww shit, not exciting? well, i don't like to take away from the actual image, personally. i did that in the very beginning of my icon making days with textures and brushes and i just ruined the icons. i only see it now because i've gotten better. i guess that's why i've shied (sp? can't brain today) from textures and brushes these days. maybe i should get back into them. c:

thank you bb. your opinion means a lot to me, y'know. *sealfais*

I think you've got a simple style of icon that I love, but I can see just the one problem with them

You cut bits off that could've been saved. Like, a tiny biy of cheek, or top of head, or whatever. But I still really like them, and my opinion counts for shitola, so whatever. :3

hmm. i never really noticed that. i used to never touch the top of the head if it wasn't already cropped out of the picture, but then i began to realise that it was okay to crop some of the face or head out if it worked with the image, and that it showed more body sometimes. but yeah, i see what you mean. i tend to do like an "angular" crop, where the head it at the topmost corner, all the time. i guess i can center them more and get more face in. :D

I love your icons because they're so simple and pretty. Your coloring style is unique which makes me in love with them. And don't take the simple thing in bad way because there is always beauty in simplicity.

As far as critiquing goes, I've always seen icons that would look even better if you added a light texture or so (please don't go overboard with this), but I can't really say anything all that bad really. ^^;

oh trust me, i'm kind of afraid of textures and brushes. XD you haven't seen my really early icons. :X *shudder* that was a horrorshow.

i think using some would be nice, though. :3 i should track some down...
